Second Nature seeks a Climate Programs Associate to support the administration, implementation, and outreach related to Second Nature’s programs. This position will manage contacts and support outreach related to Second Nature’s Climate Leadership Network members. The ideal candidate will be organized with an eye for detail as well as technically savvy with database management software, preferably Salesforce, and will be comfortable communicating with a variety of campus stakeholders in support of their Climate Leadership Network activities. 

The Climate Programs Associate will report to the Senior Manager of Climate Programs and work collaboratively with the Second Nature team to advance Second Nature’s mission of accelerating climate action in and through higher education.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

Database management (60%), including:

  • Maintaining and keeping up-to-date contacts and communication touchpoints in Salesforce

    • Supporting and tracking membership engagement activities

    • Supporting and tracking membership recruitment leads

    • Maintaining clean lists of contacts and accounts

    • Importing and exporting data

    • Creating reports and report templates as needed

    • Maintaining a database management operations guide

    • Supporting communications team with contact list queries

Membership support (40%), including:

  • Supporting Climate Leadership Network members with basic greenhouse gas inventory help and answering questions related to annual public reporting

  • Strengthening, building, and maintaining relationships with Climate Leadership Network members to inform how Second Nature can best serve campuses and accelerate campus climate action progress across the higher education sector

  • Represent Second Nature at conferences and deliver presentations, workshops, and online events

  • ​​Supporting Second Nature’s commitment to equity by strengthening and promoting a culture of inclusivity, belonging, and justice

Qualifications

We seek an energetic and organized individual who enjoys interacting with people and team collaboration. An ideal candidate is passionate about supporting the climate and sustainability efforts of higher education institutions. Other qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets for data cleanup and analysis (inc. VLOOKUPs, IFS, Go-To Special, Conditional Formatting, Text-to-Columns, etc.)

  • Knowledge of database management and customer relationship management (CRM) software, preferably Salesforce 

  • Experience with or ability to learn new software platforms e.g. Zapier, Campaign Monitor, Egnyte, Formstack/Webmerge Documents, Tableau, Sustainability Indicator Management & Analysis Platform (SIMAP) - and cross-platform integration when needed

  • Strong interest in energy, climate change or sustainability issues

  • Degree in sustainability, organizational management, environmental studies, communications, database management, non-profit management or related fields

  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to finding solutions and creating and continually improving systems 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including professional telephone communications and strong writing and data analysis ability

  • General understanding of or willingness to learn greenhouse gas accounting 

  • General knowledge of the Second Nature's programs and climate resilience and sustainability in higher education is preferred

Position Details and Classification 

This position is 100% remote. The work schedule is flexible but entails a full-time commitment of approximately 40 hours a week, with virtual supervision from Second Nature staff. To maximize collaboration Second Nature institutes common hours from 10 AM - 3 PM ET Monday through Thursday when staff are expected to work; otherwise, the work schedule is flexible. Travel is expected twice per year for a few days at a time. Other travel opportunities may arise depending on the interest of the candidate and the needs of Second Nature and our Network.

The salary band for associates is $50,000-$65,000. The anticipated hiring range for this role is between $52,500-$57,500.

Benefits include 80% organization-paid health insurance, 3% retirement plan match, and a $200 monthly work-from-home stipend.
